It’s fitting that a tiny piece of Oregon coastal paradise is simply named Secret Beach.
You can find this seaside gem along the Samuel H. Boardman Scenic Corridor, which is Pacific Northwest beauty enough to merit a visit far from the urban centers. Look for all the best of the Oregon’s seaside wonders here, all nine miles of ocean-beaten shores lined with massive cliffs, giant spruce, and natural stone bridges hewn from black volcanic stone.
The Secret Beach isn’t easy to find – it’s tucked on the northern-most end of the corridor where the Oregon Coast Trail squeezes between the road and a popular overlook to Thunder Rock Cove. Hike about a third of a mile north here until you encounter Miner Creek. You'll find a trail that leads down to a pocket beach. The hike down is steep, but short.
Say hello to Secret Beach – a pristine strip of fine-grained sand hugged by ocean-chiseled cliffs. These massive rocks shelter the beach from the brunt of waves and wind, and permit visitors to enjoy the spot in relative serenity. It’s only visited by a few people a year, and can only be enjoyed during low tide, so drink in the wild and peace here if you can.
Directions:
As an unofficial beach, Secret Beach doesn't show up on a lot of maps. There is a small gravel parking area for it 1/3 mile south of milepost 345 on U.S. 101 in Boardman State Park. From there, walk to the trailhead (a small dirt path) and enjoy an overlook into aptly-named Thunder Rock Cove. Follow the trail 1/4 mile to the secluded beach.
